3 Moms, 3 Kitchens, 31 Days...The Adventure Begins

I credit many of the wonderful blogs that I have read throughout the past few years with giving me a plethora of ideas for saving money on groceries, cooking healthy foods from scratch, and managing my time in the kitchen wisely. Now I am going to invite you into my kitchen to see the method that I have implemented after culling all this knowledge.

I have mentioned previously my plans to spend my blogging time in May focusing on my kitchen. I am thrilled to announce that two of my wonderful blogging friends will also be joining me on this adventure which we are calling 3 Moms, 3 Kitchens, 31 Days. We will be chronicling our kitchen methods including our monthly budgets, shopping trips, meal plans, recipes, and our personal food-related goals for the month.

My month will focus on sticking to our $300 monthly food budget by doing a once a month grocery trip, planning out all my meals in advance, and stocking my freezer during the first 10 days of the month with meals to last us through the end of May. I primarily cook from scratch, but this month I will also be focusing on preparing healthier foods by using more whole grains and less white sugar. I will also be revamping my master menu plan with some new meals, and readjusting my master grocery list to reflect some of the rising food costs.

Joining me on this month-long adventure are Joy from FiveJs and Toni from The Happy Housewife. Joy, the mother of three children ages 5-10, is new to menu-planning and has set her budget at $450 for her family of five. Toni, the mother of six children, ages 2-13, has set her budget at $600 for her family of eight, part of which will include vacation meals. Both Joy and Toni are filled with encouraging, practical, inspiring tips, and I am so excited to be embarking on this adventure with them.

Our kitchen doors are wide open, so come on in. We hope you enjoy our grand adventure!

I'll be following this! We spend a ridiculous amount of $ a the grocery store every month for a family of 5. On top of that we order in a few times. We really need to be more frugal.

I'm looking forward to this journey with you gals. What fun this will be.
We try to keep our grocery bill between $400 - $450/mo. for a family of 4. I do my shopping at a superstore so this includes everything household, not just food items.
Thanks for opening your kitchen!

What a great idea! I can't wait to see what's in store! I try so hard(well, maybe not)to be a good steward with the money my husband gives me for groceries... but, I so need to do better!

I am so excited to follow your journey! I have had good intentions in the past on meal planning, and freezing dinners, but it never really stuck! So, I'm hoping you guys can help motivate me and teach me!

This sounds like a great idea. I may have to borrow some, okay a lot of ideas. I am really trying to stick to a food budget, but menu planning is something that is intimidating to me. I can't imagine planning a whole month's worth of meals!

Yay, I can't wait!

I'm really looking forward to this. Thanks! :)

What a great idea! You are inspiring me to do the same. I would love to do some OAMC, but do not have a freezer at this time. I'll be checking back to see what you have posted, I am really interested!!! ;o)

A Grammatical Disclaimer

I freely admit to consistently using improper grammar in the following areas:
1. I like run-on sentences.
2. I have a tendency to end sentences with a pronoun. (I really do. I can't help it.)
3. I always seem to use passive voice in my sentences. (See?)

I've been trying to break this habit, unsuccessfully, for years, so now I just accept that as my writing style, and since I'm not writing for grades anymore, I embrace it. (Again, see?)
